In the time I’ve been living this modern poly-relationship life, I’ve been lucky to avoid outside drama. Then my boyfriend got a new boyfriend and, well, things have started to get bumpy. Luckily, I know exactly what to do: talk about it with patience, empathy and, if all else fails, kick his ass to the curb.
I want to be a source of happiness, companionship, love, laughter and all those silly/nauseating things everyone assumes comes with a relationship. I want a partner for myself that I don't have to share, with whom I don't have to worry I might accidentally cross the boundaries of one (or more) of her other partners. I want MY boundaries to be part of the essential framework of a relationship.
I am a swinger and a polyamorist. Wait, can I be both? Aren’t we supposed to be one or the other? For many people in swinging and/or polyamory, these are always the questions we ask. So what is a swinger and what is a polyamorist? Good question!
I don’t know much about polyamory; like most people, I grew up in a pretty monogamous world and I found the idea of poly relationships perplexing. Natuarlly, I had a ton of questions about it. So, I went on a trek into the unknown to figure out, what’s polyamory really about?
Non-monogamy is an awesome option to the traditional relationship set up. Unfortunately, it’s often brought up as a desperate effort to save a zombified relationship. Let’s get this straight right now: non-monogamy won’t save your relationship, but it could.
I recently started dating a poly and kinky woman (T). She is married to her Dominant. They also have a live-in BDSM slave who is owned and collared like myself, but my relationship with T isn’t kinky. In fact, we’re careful to keep our relationship deliberately vanilla. Well, as vanilla as strap-ons and hair pulling can be. Why? Because of boundaries, my darling readers.
Although I know where it comes from, I’ve never quite understood the worldwide trend of traditionally monogamous relationships. In my personal view, it’s restrictive and doesn’t really suit the nature of human sexuality. If you’re looking for a cure to the common monogamous commitment but don’t want to reinvent the wheel, why not try casual dating instead.
Last week I published an impassioned article talking about marriage equality. I got all up in arms like us sassy little gay boys tend to do (in the movies). I’m not going to lie to you, I am quite proud of myself for writing that article. It was raw, real and honest to what I am feeling. I definitely consider it to be among my best… or at least I did.
