In past relationships, the guy has always been the one to ask me out. I've been single for like 3 years and I worry that no one is going to ask me out. I don't want to ask a guy out because he may get scared. What should I do?
Hi, welcome to 2011.
Since you seem to have been in hibernation for the past century, you probably missed the women's sufferage movement. That means you don't know we've had a female secretary of state, attorney general, and we almost got a female vice president. In the 21st centrury women have the ability to do almost whatever they hell they want to. That includes initiating sex and relationships.
I understand the apprehension you're feeling. Sometimes an assertive woman can be a major turn-off to insecure men. I'm not sure why you would care about the feelings of men who can't handle a little bit of equality, but it happens.
To ease your concerns about being assertive in a relationship, I refer you to science! A recent study, performed at over 18 universities around the country, asked students about their feelings on women initiating sex and relationships. 100% of men agreed that it was ok for women to initiate sex and 75% of men agreed that it's ok for women to ask a guy out on a date.
However, the very same study found that 77% of men always initiate, which is very depressing to a new age fellow like myself.
So there you have it. Go out, be assertive. Make Susan B Anthony proud.
