Ella by Lelo Review: A Sexy Work of Art (Sexpert Approved)
Lelo knows how to make a sex toy. Each of their models are simple, streamlined, thoughtful, pleasurable and aesthetically gorgeous. Ella by Lelo falls directly into that line with its Mercedes inspired curves, silky finish so smooth it feels soft – or even plush – and gender friendly versatility. While just short of perfect for me, the sum of its parts is so high that I wouldn’t feel right not giving it the Sexpert Approved seal.

From the moment I took the Ella out of its brown cardboard shipping box, I was drawn to it. It’s box is a glossy stark white with silver lettering. It’s subtle-yet-beautiful to the point that I wouldn’t have batted an eye if there was an iPad mini inside. The boxes for Lelo toys match the color of the toy inside but this is the first one I’ve had in white. The box was a pleasant surprise. Inside the disposable white box, there was the familiar matte black storage box that accompanies all their toys. If nothing else, this packaging makes one fantastic impression.
Upon opening the box, I was greeted by a familiar yet unusual shape. It’s sort of like a really slick, nearly seamless wingless plane. I’ve never thought of a plane being particularly pleasurable but it totally was. In person, the white is absolutely stunning matte white (comes in rose and black, too). The angles and curves create all these great shadows like piece of art. It gives you a real sense of luxury, even though it’s not very expensive.
Size wise, it’s proper step up from Bob. It’s not so big that you’ll be hurt if you’re a beginner but it is noticeably bigger.
Each end of the Ella can provide different forms of stimulation. The blunt end gives a rubbing sensation like the flats of the tips of your fingers. The pointy end offers more of a pressure/pinpoint stimulation. I’ve seen reviews that say this is a toy best used alone but I would disagree. When using the pointed end, the blunt end becomes a handle. It works the other way around but it’s a little more difficult to grip for some reason. That being said, it is probably more effective when used alone.
I really enjoyed Ella’s silky smooth texture. It makes a ton of difference in how comfortable it is to use versus other silicone toys like the Doc Johnson Platinum Super 7” dildo we reviewed a little bit ago. You don’t have to use a ton of lube and it catches on the skin a lot less, even when wet.
It’s really easy to clean the Ella with just soap and water. If you want to sterilize it, you can just boil it or give it a run in the dishwasher. Just like the Lelo Bob and all other silicone Lelo toys, their logo is embossed in the fat end. This is normally a bad idea for most manufacturers because it catches bacteria and stuff but I didn’t find that it trapped anything visible. I was really worried that the stark white color would be dulled by use. It doesn’t. There’s also no lingering smells.
Turn offs
I would have preferred if the neck of the Ella was firmer. When using the blunt end, the neck isn’t firm enough to put real pressure one spot. It works better in a rubbing motion.
Other stuff
The pointed end is probably going to be the preferred end for guys wanting prostate stimulation. Either end will work well for g-spot stimulation but the blunt end will be better for clitoral.
Bottom line
Ella by Lelo is an exceptional classic dildo, the top of its class. Whether using it alone or in groups, everyone should find something they enjoy. If nothing else, you can use it as a really stylish paperweight. It’s physical beauty alone makes it worthy of its price point.
