Best Gay Erotica 2012 - Review
In general, erotica is very touch and go. For every crazy hot story, there's another that's just terrible.
Best Gay Erotica 2012 bucks that trend... for the most part.
Let's start with the good... One thing I will not say about this book is that it’s monotone, except in one way that I’ll discuss later. Each and every one of these stories is hot in one way or another and that's really cool because most of the stories are quite different from one another.
There's the story of two young guys at boarding school who discover and explore their sexuality and end up forming a bond that would last a lifetime. It’s really quite sweet.
Then there’s the story of a relationship on the rocks that leads to a guy getting raped by a cop and wanting it, followed by a weed aided, three-way revenge bondage scene. Apparently, this sort of thing just happens. No hard feelings.
There’s also my favorite story: two roommates, one gay the other straight. Flirtations become desire and eventually become twelve pages of sweaty hot action, a first for the straight boy. I’m a sucker for detail in my literary porn.
Overall these stories are hot. The writing is very good and if you enjoy reading to get a peek inside the writer's mind, you'll have all sorts of fun. But if you're looking to lay back with some wine or other things and rub one out, you'll find plenty to enjoy too.
But here's my problem, there are only three stories in the entire book that feature a non-white person and they're back-to-back in the second half of the book. I mean… Really, people. We can do better than that. All I’m asking for is a little social awareness. I swear to our lord and savior, Beyonce Giselle Knowles, is that too much to ask. I don’t think is.
Despite the editors treating people of color like a genre, I did actually enjoy all three stories. I felt like two of them they accurately portrayed an experience that was quite similar to my life in many ways. It’s rare to see that sort of black gay experience anywhere. It’s even rarer to see the experience of Asian people at all. But the third story covers that too.
That story had me struggling through some internal conflicts… it was such a sweet story with such raunchy imagery. I didn’t know how to handle it.
Bottom line: If you like reading about gay sex, like a little color and some quirk, you’ll enjoy Best Gay Erotica 2012.
